Only very rarely using Ubuntu, I wasn't aware of their "hardware enablement" - kernels: You can get a 5.4 Linux kernel on the old 18.04 LTS by installing linux-generic-hwe-18.04 (or one of its siblings).

I had been looking at their backports archive instead...
