Fooled by the 1.1.1 cli tool...

You can do something like "openssl speed rc4" and it will do a speed test for that cipher. But "openssl speed ChaCha20-Poly1305" returns:
speed: Unknown algorithm ChaCha20-Poly1305

...even though it shows up in the list of "openssl list -cipher-algorithms" (which I didn't know about until today).

Turns out ChaCha20 is available only through libcrypto's EVP interface and you have to call it as "openssl speed -evp ChaCha20-Poly1305" :flan_eyeroll:
